1 - Have You Seen This Man?
Roberto Succo (his real name) made headlines in Europe in the 80’s for killing his parents, escaping from prison, seducing and killing several others and finally staging a standoff on the roof of another prison before committing suicide.
Fascinated by the media portrayal of Succo as a brutal madman but also as a chameleon, Koltes envisions ‘Zucco’ amorally, combining moments of tenderness and violence.
In Koltes’s world we see a man fighting to be who he wants to be at any given time rather than an identity that the world would force upon him or expect him to be.
Anti-heroes are always attractive people whether because they ‘are funny and get away with things’ or ‘tragic because they are sensitive and too caring about the world’ we as the audience like them because they are always trying to fight the system or the rules of the establishment (most of the time).
